Re: Swaziland South Africa Documentary Date: 7-29-2010 Issue: Full length video divided into 3 sections
Greetings,
From July 15th through July 24th I spent time in South Africa, in particular The Kingdom Of Swaziland. My mission was to perform a series of shows at night and work during the day with a group called Heart For Africa. With that said, I believe it would be more effective for you to watch the video documentary, than for me to put into words (blog) about this incredible experience!

Date: June 26th, 2010 Original Post: Joseph Patrick Moore Re: Earl Klugh at Eric Clapton‘s Crossroads Guitar Festival Just finished performing with Earl Klugh at The Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago. It was a total blast! Thanks to Earl Klugh for inviting me to perform with him and to Eric Clapton and The Crossroads Organization for having the vision of having a master jazz guitarist such as Earl to be apart of this year’s 2010 concert. Not enough words can express how appreciative and honored it was to be apart of such an event. I heard, witnessed and met so many incredible artists, that I’m still trying to absorb the experience. A few of these moments were captured with pictures and I’m attaching a few of them here. Additionally, the concert will be available on DVD in the coming months. It should be noted that the main focus of this event is to aid The Crossroads Centre Antigua. Crossroads Centre is a non-profit, International Centre of Excellence for the treatment of alcohol and other drug addictions. Residential treatment provides a unique opportunity for individuals suffering from alcohol and drug addiction to immerse themselves in an intensive therapeutic and supportive environment. Away from the daily distractions of everyday life, the physical environment is one of peace and tranquility which offers clients a safe place to begin the process of recovery. In addition to alcohol and drug rehabilitation program, services include: intervention referrals, aftercare planning transitional living residences, and an integrated family program. In August of 2008, guitarist Dan Baraszu and I went in the studio for two days to record a live jazz duet Christmas CD. Today it has been released on Blue Canoe Records. It was honor to be able to record in an intimate setting with one of my favorite guitarist’s who happens to be a dear friend. At first I thought this would be an easy recording project, but the more I started working out the arrangement’s in pre-production, I knew it would be quite an undertaking. Recording in a duo setting (avoiding an over-produced CD) was a very eye opening experience. The stillness and nuance required in capturing a clean performance was ever more present. Every breath, string buzz, room noise, movement was amplified once we started adding compression and effects. In a sense, this was a very naked and bare recording with no other instruments to mask the inconsistencies of our performances (particularly drums). Capturing a great performance, minus all the ambient noises was probably the biggest hurdle we had to overcome.
Secondly, how many times have we heard the vast catalog of Christmas music from multiple artists over the years? Trying to re-arrange these “standard” tunes was in and of itself a challenge. The goal of course was to try and come up with something new or create a fresh unique approach to these classic songs. All in all, recording in this duo environment with Dan was a blast. I hope each of you will enjoy the CD as much as Dan and I had in performing/recording it.
JPM produces compilation for Blue Canoe Records. This compilation titled, “Look What The Cats Drug In – Volume 1″ is an audio recording featuring The Modern Jazz Stylings Of Blue Canoe Recording artists. This CD will be released on September 16th, 2008. |
